Tina Holbein is a walking testimony to what a great and close-knit community Liberty Hill is – in case anyone had any doubt.

Holbein, owner of Tina’s Cottage (1300 B Highway 29, across from LibertyHillHigh School), was laid up for a couple months back at the beginning of this year.

But the colorful and charasmatic Holbein – mother of former LHHS football star Dylon, who was a safety on the LHHS football teams that won back-to-back state championships in 2007-08; and of current LHHS freshman Trevor, who also plays football – has bounced back strong and was back to work full-time March 19 at the quaint, trademark cottage.

Even though she was out of commission, she certainly wasn’t forgotten by her own community.

“Oh my goodness, the outpouring to me was awesome!” Holbein exclaimed. “People would call me, send me texts and send me e-mails wishing me well. But the amazing part was the number of people who called me to help out with the business. People like Peggy Bishop (Bluebonnet Pride Insurance Agency, Inc.), Kim Butler (Cat Trax Rentals), Judy Metzger (Banglets by Design) and Sloane Dawson (Sloane's By Design House Cleaning Service) and many others volunteered to help me while I was out.

“They called to offer any kind of assistance – work at the shop, drive me to the doctor’s office, drive my Mom around, whatever. I was just so surprised with all the people who responded the way they did.”

Tina was particularly thankful to her staffers and others for their help.

“Janice Cantwell and Catherine Johnson were so very helpful,” Tina recalled. “They kept this place going and did a tremendous job. I’m very, very thankful for them and what they did.”

Holbein revealed things have started to pick up since her return.

“Things have been good (since March 19),” Holbein stated. “The last week or so things have even picked up a bit. We’ve got some new items coming in – sunglasses, watches, purses, kitchen stuff and more.”

Anyone who knows anything about Tina Holbein knows she’s not one to sit around and waste time (she admits it was tough to sit at home while she was out). However, the spunky Holbein has more than made up for her time away with a bevy of upcoming events at “the cottage.”

Here is a list of events (in chronological order) Tina’s Cottage will either be hosting or for which she’ll have specific inventory. Tina can be reached at 512.548.6108; she has a Facebook page and can also be found online at www.tinascottage.info.
