Real Madrid received a painful 3-0 win on Saturday in their visit to Eibar, in a match of the 13th day of the Spanish championship the day after the revelations about an abnormal anti-doping control of the Spanish captain, Sergio Ramos. Being the first defeat of the new coach of Real Madrid, the Argentine Santiago Solari, who until now had added four wins (two in the league, one in the Cup and one in the Champions).
The modest Basque club won in Ipurua thanks to the goals of Gonzalo Escalante (minute 16), after a query from the referee to the VAR for possible offside, Sergi Enrich (52) and Kike Garcia (57). (Read here: Football Leaks: Sergio Ramos tested positive for doping in the 2017 Champions League final )
Sergio Ramos, who on Friday had been protagonist for a Football Leaks information that said the Madrid captain suffered an abnormal anti-doping control by a powerful corticoid on the night of the Champions League victory in May 2017, before being acquitted by the UEFA, signed a bad encounter, in which he received some whistles from the public.
“We do not add anything to distribute faults and point out,” said Solari after the meeting. “We know we have not done a good game, we have things to correct, the players worked, they put what they had, it has not been an attitude problem,” he added. The victory of Eibar cuts a good run of the whites, who did not lose from the Clásico against Barcelona at the end of October.
Those of Solari remain in the sixth position of the qualifying table with 20 points, to three of the Champions League posts that now closes the Alavés, which fell on Friday against Leganés (1-0). Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, which face this Saturday (2:45 pm) in the Spanish capital, have the opportunity to put land in between with the meringues.
On the other hand, the three points allow Eibar to overtake six opponents and climb to the seventh place in the standings with 18 points, two from Real Madrid.
Real Madrid again paid dearly for the imbalances in defense, one of its weaknesses this season. Solari lined the goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and defense of four integrated by Alvaro Odriozola, Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and Marcelo, who could not avoid the punch of the azulgrana.
After a first part in which the whites barely had chances, Eibar came out strong after the break doing damage by the bands with Marc Cucurella and Fabian Orellana. The Catalan was ahead of Odriozola, injured after the action, to assist Enrich and get the second goal. On the third goal the ball went from side to side before it was picked up by Kike Garcia inside the area.
“We have not found the solutions, we have not been able to play the football that we like,” he said at the end of the Varane match. “It’s a collective problem, we know we have to be united and keep working,” the French defender closed.
Despite the comfortable advantage in the scoreboard, Eibar wanted to give a round to his fans and looked forward to increasing his scoring account, which was no longer due to the good saves of Courtois. Solari moved the bench in search of a goal giving entry to Isco and Vinicius, but without success.
Real Madrid must overcome this harsh corrective quickly because on Tuesday they visit AS Roma with the intention of sealing the pass to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
