Final Score by Chuck Licata
As a lot of you are probably aware, the Leader and LibertyHillSports.com have teamed up with the Liberty Hill All-Sports Booster Club to produce the Panthers Football Program this year and next year.
It’s something Jamie & Monroe Williamson and myself hoped to include in our projects the past couple years. We sat down the LHASBC president Deb Terry and just-departed president Arthur Zamarripa and worked out an arrangement.
On a side note, I’d like to join LHASBC and extend my congrats to Arthur, who was instrumental as the Club’s presidents in putting LHASBC on firm ground. And I know Arthur would say, “Well, it wasn’t just me, it was the booster club staff.” But it was Arthur’s leadership that helped the club get on such great footing.
The good news – Monroe Williamson has headed up this project and gets a lot of help from Jamie, James Wear and Allen Connolly.
As with any new project, there are some “bumps in the road.” We got a late jump on sales and other parts of the project; last year’s ads were lost in a computer crash; and, there are other logistics to sort through. So, if you get involved with us, please be patient and bear with us.
For my little part of the project, I’m trying to help bring in student ads into the program (they gave me something they didn’t think I could screw up too badly).
The one thing I’ll say about the student ads: why aren’t there more of them? I know there are a ton of LH parents out there proud of their students – and there’s no reason they shouldn’t or couldn’t spend a few dollars (which helps fund the LHASBC, by the way) to “publicly” proclaim their pride.
I do have one thought on why that is. It might be because the Football Program comes out only during football season, so parents of students who are involved in other sports (winter or spring) may not think to put in an ad.
But that’s not the case at all. While the program is sold during the football games, it’s a lifetime keep-sake that folks hang on to and look at no matter what time of year.
Also, parents of students who are not athletes should also feel “welcome” to highlight their son or daughter! I promise you, everyone from Dr. Robert Hart to Jerry Vance to Bobby Mabry would encourage parents of students who are involved in the band or any academic or other school function to “show off” their pride for their son or daughter.
Heck, your favorite student doesn’t have to be a part of any club to be in the program.
And remember, this season will be the last season for what will soon be referred to as the “Old Panther Stadium.” That’s why I think it’s important to have your student highlighted in this program – it will be the last sold at the old stadium and will truly be a keepsake for years to come.
Thus my personal motto: Make your student a part of The Final Season.
And don’t forget: student ads, which start at just $30, support the only organization that supports LHISD athletics directly, the Liberty Hill All-Sports Booster Club.
