Being ‘thankful’ – a week late

Okay, so I’m a week late in writing the expected “Thanksgiving” column.

As Jamie Williamson and her Leader staff can tell you, things have been so busy these days we’re lucky to be “caught up” on issues, let alone stay ahead of them!

But yes, Thanksgiving does make one hark about what they’re thankful for – but I promise to keep the list short and sweet.

And honestly, it’s pretty simple for me – I’m just thankful for being accepted into the Liberty Hill community. I’ve been here since Nov. 2006 and been blessed to:

*have been accepted here in the community in the media realm

*have hooked up with Jamie, Monroe, James, Alan and the Leader staff

*have been able to launch Panthers Prime Time in Liberty Hill (and it’s currently a "franchise" program for K-MAC Sports)

Five years in, I’m thankful most parents in the community have realized all we (at the Leader and LibertyHillSports.com ) do, it’s “for the kids,” as Coach Vance likes to say. The list of parents who’ve been helpful in so many ways – providing stats, photos, information about their teams or kids. And, maybe more importantly, just their general hospitality and conversation.

If I tried to list those parents by name, I’d have to ask Jamie to expand this edition of the Leader to 15 pages – seriously. I know those parents – current and past – know who they are in my reference here.

Coach Vance and the LHHS coaching staff have certainly bent over backwards to help us in our sports coverage – in fact, I feel kind of guilty sometimes for all the help we ask (the interviews, stats requests, photo opportunities, etc.). We couldn’t do half the coverage we do without help from the LHISD coaches at all levels.

Of course, I’m very thankful for my two friends from my initial media venture here in LH – Merle Rouillard and Linda Lattanzio. Talk about reasons to be thankful – those two have seen me at my best, my worst and just about everything in-between! They’ve put up with more from me than great friends should have to; I’m happy they even let me use their names publicly.

Plus, those two more than anyone else helped me get LibertyHillSports.com launched.

Dr. Hart, Kim Thompson and the staffers at LHISD have been more-than-helpful as well. I think that goes without saying, although I’m saying it anyway.

And it goes without saying Liberty Hill icons like Trey Hillman not only have been helpful to me but do so much for the community!

I guess what I’m saying is, the bottom line: no matter how tough things get (and they have been tough for a lot of us in different ways and levels) it’s always good to be part of a loving, caring community like Liberty Hill.
