As you may have noticed, something really big is going on at Liberty Hill’s United Methodist Church. Really Big! The new building, which will fit in well with the existing ones, will be a multi-purpose worship center, full size gym, and convertible into a worship space, classrooms, and kitchen.
Financed through the results of a capital campaign conducted in the church this past year and with financing by the Texas Methodist Foundation, the plans also include the building to be a readiness emergency shelter. This will be an important benefit to the whole community of Liberty Hill.
The existing chapel will still be used for special worship service and other special functions. The original church building is of important historical significance to the area.
One member in particular, James O. “Smitty” Smith, has contributed more than just heart and soul to the church, but also his magnificent wood working skills to create many beautiful additions to the church that includes a beautiful cross.
About the cross: “The openness of this cross symbolizes that we (the L.H.U.M.C.) are open to all and they are welcome to come and worship our God and His Son, Jesus Christ and receive the Holy Spirit.”
“The Oak is a symbol of the strength that we receive from Him when we welcome Him into our life. The Red Cedar at each right and left hand as well as the foot symbolizes the blood our Christ shed for us – to cleanse us of our sins.”
“The Red Cedar cross within a cross symbolizes the life that Christ gave for our sins. We must accept and bare within ourselves this cross as a constant reminder of His love and sacrifice to save us, His children.”
“The Crown of the cross is seven pieces of Texas Walnut and is from the original prayer rail in the original church which has heard many thousands of prayer of joy, lament, concern and praise for over 150 years.”
This beautiful cross will go with the Methodist church as they move into their new building and will become an important part of the Worship Center. All of God’s children that He sends will be welcome here at the church and their Christian love and joyful worship of our God, Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit will be shared with everyone.
