A great game – no matter what the name

(Abarw.com/Allison Weirich Photo) Jadon Durity-Boatright was "Thunder-Boom" good against Burnet Friday night.. Durity-Boatright scored via 72-yard kickoff return, 20-yard TD reception, 30-yard field goal and 8 extra-point kicks in the 65-33 victory.

Once upon a time, there was a junior at Liberty Hill High School named Jadon.

What his last name was, just depended on whom you asked.

Actually, the above scenario is very current. LHHS’ junior football player (defensive back, kicker, swing man) Jadon has a couple different last names.

The UIL – which is the name I go by on the K-MAC Sports broadcasts and Liberty Hill Leader articles – has him listed as Durity. The football roster has him listed as Boatright because he lives with his mother, Melissa Boatright, and his stepfather, Randy.

Talked to Randy the other day – he said they’re using Durity-Boatright when communicating with colleges.

Whatever you want to call him – call him successful.

Jadon had one of the greatest all-around individual performances on the football field Friday against Burnet – ironic since he was in the Burnet school system for six years.

Jadon smoked the Bulldogs for a touchdown reception from back-up quarterback Brandon Wells towards the end of the first half; returned the opening kickoff of the second half 72 yards for a touchdown; booted a 30-yard field goal with a kick that would have been good from 40 yards; and, oh yah, went 8-for-8 on extra-point kicks.

The only other PAT attempt by Liberty Hill was an incomplete pass.

Jadon finished the game accounting for 23 of Liberty Hill’s 65 points – 12 on the two touchdowns, three on the field goal and eight on the extra-point kicks.

That’s 23 points – something you’d expect from an NBA players on a good night. You remember the NBA, right?

To know the skill of Jadon – who runs track and plays basketball at LHHS as well – is like watching a conductor direct a symphony successfully through its hardest number in front of a captivated audience.

Now, let’s be honest, a high school student-athlete with that kind of talent will sometimes forget to keep it turned “on,” on occasion.

But that’s okay – he more than makes up for it with his passion and determination.

No doubt, Jadon took some personal pride as the Panthers beat the Bulldogs on Friday Night in front of a good crowd at Panthers Stadium. Playing that well against his former school (district) certainly bodes well for him – and just in time for the playoffs.

And obviously, Jadon wasn’t the only “shining star” in the 65-33 victory over the rival Bulldogs. But it was certainly one of the biggest performances that should put his name in the LHHS varsity football record books.

No matter what last name they list for him.
